Molecular Sequence Analysis

While deeply looking into some important problems of nucleic and amino acid sequence analysis, this course covers many computational and statistical concepts widely used in bioinformatics.

Topics of the course include:

• genome structure and composition
• representation of sequence families and scoring schemes for searching new members
• statistical models of sequences
• properties and prediction of coding genes
• regulatory motif finding

In the homework assignments, students will implement some of the discussed approaches and also become familiar with many useful bioinformatics tools.
